Overview:
Project Manager (Product Development) is a lead engineer responsible for planning, and executing project work focusing on the development of new, novel, subsystem / system designs which can be deployed to Public Transport Systems.
Key Accountabilities :
– Responsible for the mechanical design & development of electro-mechanical sub-systems & systems.
– Responsibilities include concept and detailed design, bench level and prototype design, testing, documentation and engineering validation of new products.
– Take a product from white paper to Prototype
– Ability to work with cross-functional team to define mechanical equipment required and manufacturing process for products developed
– Design test fixtures for breadboard or bench scale product testing
– Develop and test prototypes
– Identify, analyze, and recommend new or emerging technologies and materials to improve product designs
– Work with the Research / Development and Application teams to ensure research concepts are translated into safe and compliant design solutions which meet relevant standards & legislation, delivered to budget and timescale.
– Work with other Engineering Functions, Project Management, Manufacturing, Procurement and Quality to develop a manufacturable, safe and reliable product.
– Apply safe design principles to safety critical systems, with particular interest in electrical safety, pressure and machine safety directives.
– Management and ownership of system design deliverables, change control and risks.
– Ensure electrical designs are delivered in adherence to PTL QMS processes and procedures.
– Work in line with customer PDLC (Agile or Waterfall)
Experience:
Mechanical engineering degree – Essential
Use of 3D & 2D CAD software to produce design models and drawings. Creo 2 experience desired – Essential
Strong design background and high proficiency in CAD systems – Essential
Experience in product development or similar role – Essential
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to master complex systems with sound mechanical principles – Essential
Materials science understanding a plus – Desirable
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet aggressive development timelines – Essential
Ability to work with a start-up mentality, self-motivated, highly driven – Essential
Must have a thorough understanding of theoretical and practical technical principles in the following areas: mechanical design, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, heat transfer, technical writing. – Essential
Design & development experinace with Electromechanical system for Public Transport OEM – Desirable
Good general IT skills – MS office, Excel, Power Point – Essential
Good verbal communication and report writing – Essential
Good organisational skills including time management. – Essential

Work experience with Global team with min 6 months of exp at customer place (USA, Canada, China) – Essential
